Candida Symptoms and Signs in Men and Women

Candida symptoms occur when one has Candida infection. Candida Albicans is a type of yeast that lives harmoniously with the other microorganism in the body. It is found in the skin, the digestive system, the throat and in the reproductive system especially the vagina and cervix in women. For men, it is found in the foreskin of the penis, the prostate gland and also the urethra. When there is contact of fluids from both male and female and one of them is infected with the Candida yeast, the clean one becomes infected.

 Candida Symptoms In Men

Candida Symptoms In MenSome of the Candida symptoms in men are; pain in the groin, pain while urinating and difficulty when urinating. This is caused by prostatitis, an inflammation of the prostate gland, which is found in the productive system in men. When the yeast grows more rapidly than it should, the immune system is compromised and its functioning is altered thus allowing the bacteria in the prostate to cause inflammations. The toxins emitted by the yeast also cause the inflammation.

Fungal infections that keep on occurring may be because of Candida infections such as athlete’s foot and jock itch. Jock itch occurs on the both sides of the groin where there is folding and it spreads into the inner thigh. The rash will also occur on the scrotum and spread to the penis. When that happens, there is need to worry because those are definite Candida symptoms.  Athlete’s foot occurs in the legs in between the toes and may spread to the sore of the foot. The rash may also spread on the upper skin of the toes and due to the itching and the urge to scratch, the skin becomes raw.

The overgrowth of the fungi that causes Candida is rampant in these two areas because they have the conditions that favour their growth. These parts are moist because of constant sweating. They are also warm either because they are either covered in socks for the feet and or because the groin area is hairy. That is why it is always advisable to keep the groin area shaved and make sure your feet are properly dried before wearing socks. It is also advisable to air one’s feet as often as possible. Athlete’s foot rarely happens to women because their feet are rarely covered. Impotence may also be one of the Candida symptoms, but this occurs after a long time of untreated Candida yeast infections. The overgrowth of yeast in the urethra leaves it constricted and this makes it impossible for the passage of semen leading to impotence, which is inability to get and maintain an erection.

Inflammation of the penis is also one of Candida symptoms. The penis becomes itchy, sore, will become discoloured and eventually swell. When having sex there is painful ejaculation because the urethra is constricted and there is inhibited flow of semen.

Another one of Candida symptoms is thrush in the mouth, which may spread to the oesophagus when swallowing food. When this happens, the yeast is spread to the small intestines where there are small holes for food absorption to the blood stream and it can spread to the other body organs through the blood stream. Skin rash on the other parts of the body like the armpits, behind the ears and the cleft between the buttocks should be a cause to worry because it can be one of the Candida infection symptoms.

 Candida Symptoms In Women

Candida Symptoms In WomenFor women, Candida symptoms are evident in the mouth, the vagina and the skin under the breasts because they are warm and moist and they are not exposed to the air. Candida infection in the under arms and the pubic area is not very common to women because they keep these areas shaved and clean.

Infection in the vagina is characterized with pain during urination, when inserting tampons and when having sex. The vagina is itchy and there is a whitish, yellow or creamy yellow discharge, which smells bad at times. The yellow or cream yellow discharge may be pus from the inflamed walls of the cervix. As we said earlier, the yeast produces toxins, and they are the ones responsible for itching and inflammation.

Another Candida infection symptom is a fungal infection of the finger and toenails. The nail bed thickens and then turns into a greyish colour. The nail eventually falls off the finger. Other Candida symptoms are oral thrush, a formation of white substance cheeks lining and or on the top or sides of the tongue, which may lead to bad breath.
